Mr. Jeff Shaw
Head of School and Rector The English School

• Bachelor’s degree in Geography and Education.
• Master’s degree in International Education.
• Ed.D doctoral candidate.
• Certificate of International School Leadership.
• Fellow of The Royal Geographical Society.
• Chartered Geographer of The Royal Geographical Society.

I set out on my career in an outstanding state school in my home city of Wolverhampton in the UK being a Head of Year, teaching Geography, managing an outdoor pursuits centre with the PTA, and coaching football and cricket teams. I then ventured abroad as a middle manager in Colombia and Kuwait, also becoming Head of School in Cologne, Germany. I settled in the Mosel valley when I was seconded by the UK government to work with the European Union in Luxembourg and then resumed my career in senior leadership in Berlin and the International School of The Hague, and most recently as International Principal in a boarding school of 4,000 plus students in South China.

I have had the great fortune to have worked in a number of educational systems across the world and I find that the academic, internationally-minded and student learning-centred vision of the International Baccalaureate is the one that sets the standard.

Adolfo De La Cruz
Head of Curriculum Development

• Bachelor’s degree Petrochemical Engineering.
• Master’s degree in Chemistry.
• Master’s degree in Education of Educational Institutions Management.

I have an extensive experience teaching chemistry in The Cambridge International General Certificate of Secondary Education and in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP). In addition, I have held different leadership and educational management positions such as Head of Science, Diploma Programme Coordinator, Deputy Head of Upper School at The English School.

I have collaborated for many years with the International Baccalaureate (IB) as an assistant moderator of the internal Chemistry assessment and as an assistant examiner of dissertations. I am an active member of the International Baccalaureate Network of Educators for the Americas, advising and leading Diploma Programme verification and assessment visits to IB World Schools in Latin American countries.

I deeply believe in education as the way to transform society and build a better, equitable, and peaceful world. I believe that a holistic view of education and a stimulating curriculum that challenges and empowers students of their own learning is required. Additionally, I think there is a need to generate appealing learning environments where students can grow physically, mentally, intellectually, emotionally, and socially.
