International Experiences

International Experiences

Educating global citizens

At The English School, we promote a truly global education. Our aim is for 100% of our students to take part in international educational experiences that broaden their perspective on the world, enabling them to immerse themselves in transformative experiences that transcend borders. These experiences allow students to explore new cultures first-hand and connect with people from all over the world.

By taking part, students not only deepen their understanding of the world, but also play an active role in helping to create a more inclusive, interconnected and empathetic global community. These international learning opportunities form the cornerstone of an innovative education that transcends borders.

Cultural Immersion

Our flagship trip to the UK

In keeping with our school’s English tradition, Grade 6 and Grade 7 students participate in a trip to the UK, our flagship international experience. Over the course of two weeks, they enjoy total immersion in English culture, history and daily life. They visit iconic cities such as Manchester, Liverpool, Edinburgh and London, exploring their most emblematic museums, monuments, castles and palaces. It is a unique opportunity for cultural immersion and experiential learning.

Round Square

Broadening global horizons

The English School is part of Round Square, a prestigious network of approximately 300 schools in over 65 countries. This global alliance is founded on six key ideals: international understanding, democracy, environmental stewardship, adventure, leadership and service. Through Round Square, our students complement their classroom learning with enriching travel experiences and online initiatives that shape their character and develop their abilities to make a positive difference in the world as globally-minded, courageous and compassionate leaders.

A unique academic and cultural experience

Student exchanges with Round Square partner schools offer a deep academic and cultural immersion. Our students attend classes as full members of the host school, with a range of accommodation options:

  • With host families (reciprocal exchange): Students stay with a family from the host school, and in return, our family hosts a student for the same period. Costs are limited to travel tickets and accommodation for the host student.
  • With host families (non-reciprocal): accommodation with a family from the host school without the need to host a student in return. Costs are limited to travel tickets.
  • At the school (boarding school): Accommodation on the school premises. Costs cover the cost of meals, air tickets and tourist activities.

Platforms for leadership and global communication

Round Square’s international conferences provide an invaluable platform for students to broaden their horizons and engage with global issues in a truly international setting. These conferences feature inspiring speakers, group discussions, immersive workshops and enriching cultural experiences. This enables students to develop crucial leadership, communication and problem-solving skills.

In 2024, The English School had the honour of hosting the 56th Round Square International Conference, which was attended by over 600 international students; 16 of our students stood out as Baraza leaders and 58 took an active part. Furthermore, every year, a group of students from our school attends various Round Square conferences around the world.

Global connectivity without physical boundaries

Through virtual experiences, our students develop international understanding without having to travel. These opportunities include interactive Zoom ‘postcards’ and virtual meetings, where Primary and Secondary students take part in discussions on a range of topics related to the ideals of Round Square. One of the most meaningful experiences is the opportunity for Grade 2 students to have a pen pal from a Round Square school in Florida. Through these interactions, students learn, celebrate and debate to enhance their international understanding.

Safety is our top priority in every international experience

The safety of our students is our top priority. For exchange programmes and international conferences with Round Square, we have implemented a rigorous selection process for partner schools, based on child protection policies endorsed by our Social-Emotional Department and Legal team. Furthermore, host families who welcome our students undergo a thorough criminal background check.

For all international trips, we carry out a detailed analysis of potential risks and draw up a comprehensive plan to mitigate and respond to each one. We also have a clear communication protocol in place to deal with any eventuality. The peace of mind of parents and students is our top priority in every international educational experience.
