Middle Years Programme (MYP)
The Middle Years Programme (MYP) is designed for students aged 11 to 16, from Grade 5 to Grade 9, and promotes inquiry-based learning, critical thinking and the application of knowledge in the real world. At The English School, this programme not only fosters academic development but also strengthens essential life skills.
The MYP is a bridge between primary education and higher education. In the Primary Years Programme, students develop curiosity and critical thinking through exploration. In the MYP, these foundations are built upon with more advanced academic structures and applications in global contexts. In this way, students acquire the skills needed to excel in the Diploma Programme (DP) or the Career-related Programme (CP).
How Does a Student at
The English School Learn in the MYP?
At The English School, learning goes beyond rote memorisation. Students develop analytical thinking, research skills and the ability to apply their knowledge in real-life situations.
Inquiry-based learning
Classes in the MYP encourage curiosity and independence. Students explore questions, conduct research and construct their own knowledge, rather than simply receiving answers from the teacher.
Connection to real life
Each unit of study relates to real-world problems. For example, in Mathematics, students do not just solve equations, but understand how they are applied in economics or architecture.
Developing skills for the future
The programme incorporates activities and projects that enhance communication skills, critical thinking, organisational skills and teamwork, preparing students for university and life.
Comprehensive education
The MYP ensures a well-rounded education by covering all areas of knowledge, including science, the humanities, the arts and physical education.
Ongoing assessment and feedback
Beyond grades, students receive detailed feedback that enables them to improve and reflect on their learning process.
Personal Project
In this final project, students plan, research and create a product based on their interests, which prepares them for the research involved in the Diploma Programme (DP) or the Career-related Programme (CP).
Learning in an Innovative and Global Environment
The MYP at The English School offers an innovative curriculum that combines modern approaches with practical and relevant learning. As one of the schools with the most innovative curriculum in Bogotá and across the country, we provide students with an environment that fosters critical thinking and creativity. Furthermore, we promote a non-traditional education, where every pupil develops life skills within an international and dynamic context.
The MYP helps students to become active thinkers, problem-solvers and global citizens, prepared for the challenges of the 21st century. At The English School, students learn in a meaningful and purposeful way.
