Learning Support

Education that Adapts, Motivates, and Challenges

We value the uniqueness of every student

At The English School, we recognise that every student learns differently. That is why we have a strong interdisciplinary team of teachers and specialists who are skilled in implementing tailored approaches, enabling us to identify and cater for the cognitive, sensory and emotional diversity of our students. This structure allows us to offer an inclusive and accessible learning experience that is tailored to the needs of each individual.

Early Years and Primary

From the very beginning, we recognise that every child has their own pace and style of learning. Our Learning Support Department comprises a specialist team of academic support teachers in Spanish, English and Mathematics, supported by professionals such as school counsellors, speech and language therapists and occupational therapists.

This interdisciplinary team takes a preventive approach, guided by a philosophy of respect, inclusion and individualisation, designing strategies that help students discover and develop their full potential. In some cases, where the need arises, the team works in collaboration with external professionals and the family to support the student in their academic and personal development.

Secondary

As our students progress through their school career, we provide personalised support in key areas of learning:

English

When a student has limited communication skills, they are assigned a specialist teacher who works with them in one-to-one sessions or small groups. Through exercises, projects and assignments, their oral and written comprehension and production skills are developed.

Spanish

The support focuses on developing communication skills, particularly in reading and writing, two processes that are essential for academic and professional success. In reading comprehension, strategies and tools are provided to strengthen the three fundamental levels: the literal level, in which explicit information from the text is identified; the inferential level, which enables the interpretation of what has been read and the construction of meaning; and the propositional level, in which the student can make judgements, express opinions and reflect critically on the content. As for writing, strategies are offered ranging from the planning and organisation of ideas to coherent and structured writing, thereby fostering clear and effective communication.

Mathematics

Our approach in this area aims to strengthen fundamental mathematical skills, which are essential for students to feel confident when working with numerical, algebraic and geometric concepts. When it is identified that a student requires additional support, they are assigned a place to work either individually or in small groups, where they receive specific guidance to consolidate key skills such as logical reasoning, problem-solving, pattern analysis and data interpretation. Through practical activities and visual and modelling strategies, students deepen their understanding of mathematical concepts and develop useful tools to apply them both in the school environment and in their daily lives.

Creative Minds Programme

This programme is designed for students from Early Years through to Grade 7 who demonstrate high achievement in subjects such as English, Spanish or Mathematics. Through inquiry-based projects and creative thinking, students explore topics of interest to them, formulate questions, design action plans and present their findings in an original and creative way, often using technology.

The programme aims to cater for individual differences in learning, ensuring that every student’s potential is recognised and nurtured. Its approach is based on the principles of accessibility, adaptability and acceptance, and is supported by an interdisciplinary team with expertise in tailored learning pathways.

Spanish as a Foreign Language

The Spanish as a Foreign Language (SFL) programme is aimed at students whose mother tongue is not Spanish. Most of them are in primary school, which facilitates early and meaningful language acquisition.

The programme’s approach is aligned with the International Baccalaureate (IB) standards and promotes the development of both oral and written communication skills. Furthermore, it aims to enable students to function fluently in a variety of social settings whilst learning about key aspects of Spanish-speaking culture.

A strong Commitment to Our Students' Development

At The English School, we believe that a quality education goes beyond simply imparting knowledge: it involves nurturing individuals with sound judgement, empathy and creativity, who are capable of tackling the challenges of today’s world. That is why our innovative curriculum not only meets academic standards, but also incorporates modern teaching tools, personalised support and meaningful experiences both inside and outside the classroom. This approach is complemented by support programmes that foster emotional well-being, promote independence and reinforce a commitment to learning. In this way, we provide a transformative educational experience, designed to meet the real needs of each student and prepare them to lead their own future with purpose.
