Emotional and Social Skills
At The English School, our students’ well-being is a top priority. We recognise that a well-rounded education goes beyond academic excellence and encompasses the development of emotional and social skills – essential tools for navigating the complexities of human interaction and building a strong school community.
With a pioneering approach aligned with the International Baccalaureate (IB) Learner Profile and the implementation of evidence-based programmes, we are a leading institution in the country in the field of social-emotional development from Early Years through to Secondary, as well as in the prevention of bullying.
Our commitment:
To help our students become emotionally intelligent citizens, capable of managing their emotions, resolving conflicts constructively, showing empathy and making sound decisions for their individual and collective well-being.
Early Years and Primary
Through dynamic games, exciting adventures, inspiring stories and hands-on activities, our social and emotional learning class helps our children understand their inner world, manage their emotions and build positive relationships with their peers. We aim to nurture happy, resilient and strong individuals who are capable of living a fulfilling life and contributing to a better world.
Our children develop key skills such as:
Self-awareness and identity
Emotional awareness
Emotional regulation
Respect
Resilience
Empathy
Kindness
Tolerance
Secondary
At The English School, we recognise social and emotional learning as the foundation of our Secondary students’ well-being and holistic development. In accordance with current legislation (Law 2383 of 2024), we have implemented a structured programme that strengthens their emotional, social and ethical skills, preparing them to face personal challenges, interact respectfully with others and thrive in their future lives.
Our students develop these skills in particular during our Life Skills lessons, through practical and meaningful experiences that promote mental health, positive social interaction and the prevention of issues typical of their stage of development. Our approach is based on recognised models such as CASEL, which have a proven impact on academic performance, behaviour and interpersonal relationships:
Self-awareness
Self-control
Self-management
Social awareness
Interpersonal skills
Responsible decision-making
Life Skills Programme
This comprehensive programme is designed to foster a school environment and a learning atmosphere that is inherently positive and safe for all members of our educational community—students, teachers and families—and to promote respect for oneself and others in every aspect of daily life.
Taking an active approach to prevention and promotion, we aim to help our students develop and strengthen a core set of prosocial and socio-emotional skills, tailored to their stage of development. These skills are essential not only for harmonious coexistence within our school community, but also for their comprehensive development as committed and responsible global citizens.
