SECONDARY

Olga Botero
Director of Secondary

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics
  • Master’s degree in Education: Curriculum Design and Evaluation

When I chose to study Mathematics, many of my classmates asked me the following question: “What are you going to do for a living if education doesn’t pay? And my usual answer was: “If I can touch the minds and hearts of children, I will have the best reward”. And this has definitely been my greatest satisfaction during the 28 years I have been educating teenagers.

Of my 28 years in education, 18 have been spent at The English School, where I have been trained in the model offered by the International Baccalaureate (IB). This training, together with my Master’s degree in Curriculum Design and Evaluation, has allowed me to work successfully as a Mathematics Teacher, Year Coordinator, Well-being Coordinator, Head of Middle School and Director of Secondary. I feel lucky to have been able to get to know the school from the different roles I have held. As an educator and mother of two successful professional graduates of the school, I am convinced that The English School offers the best education by integrating the curriculum of the National Education System with that offered by the International Baccalaureate.

It is a pleasure for me to work as a team with the MYP Coordinator, the University Counsellor, the Well-being Coordinator, the school counsellors and the excellent teachers to guide the teaching and learning process for students in Grades 5 to 11. It is here that skills development, learning in context, conceptual understanding, approaches to learning, community service, inclusion and diversity in the teaching-learning process and STEM education will be key to our students to successfully face their future and the challenges ahead.
